Home Barn at Chelsea Flower Show 2012
A few weeks ago we were approached by a student from Sparsholt College, Helen Parsons, who won a competition run by Country Greenhouses & Alitex, to design the planting scheme for their large stand at The Chelsea Flower Show – the design features their new Acer greenhouse which has just recently been endorsed by the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew.
This was Helen’s first time showing at one of the UK’s most prestigious and high profile garden shows, and she was thankful that Paul Hensey, a previous RHS Chelsea designer, was mentoring her until her vision had been made into a reality.
Helen’s brief to Homebarn was that we should bring ‘indoors outdoors’ with our scheme - we adored this idea instantly.
We are very used to creating interior schemes for commercial clients, sourcing tables, chairs and props and creating bespoke artwork but we had never had the chance to get our grubby mitts on a garden before… we naturally jumped at the chance to be involved.
By good fortune, we are currently involved in an interior scheme for a Manchester restaurant with a ‘Botanical’ feel and were well armed with lots of vintage goodies related to nature, science, botany, horticulture and gardening (more of this project in our next blog). We had also been working on a ‘Potting Shed’ project with a commercial client … working up interiors schemes with vintage gardening tools and equipment so we were really keen to use some of what we had learnt on these projects and see if they would work in an outdoor space.
The final result was inspiring – our vintage garden and storage pieces worked in synergy and created a calming, organic style that most could create as their own, but for those that would like Helen’s magical touch, she can be contacted by email - firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks to Country Greenhouses and by Alitex for the opportunity to be involved http://www.countrygreenhouses.co.uk
