Let’s face it, winter really needs to head back to where it came from and allow us to enjoy a little sunshine… right now. After all, today is the first official day of Spring – something to do with the Vernal Equinox, or along those lines anyway. So, today we thought we’d cheer everyone up with a dash of hot pink and orange here or, vibrant turquoise and blue there, courtesy of a few choice accessories from the Barn.
A great idea to brighten our homes for Spring is to try an eclectic mix of pop pink and orange hues (we used our Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ paints on original vintage Ercol chairs…a local brand you know), mixed with small accessories. Add a few gorgeous Spring flowers (such as bright tulips, daffodils and narcissi) into some ball jars… et voila! Enough to melt away those winter blues creating a happy sunny home.
Spring Greens at Home Barn
After what can only be described as a very busy and very snowy January, we’re now so looking forward to Spring and all it’s Botanical Glory. Classic pieces such as an anglepoise light featured here in green, framed butterflies and bugs and the ever popular botanical and animal teaching aid prints, all offer beautiful Darwinian Detail, nature is certainly inspiring Home Barn this season.
October nights are fast drawing in, and our clocks go back on the 28th October…this Sunday! Our thoughts are drawn towards Halloween, bonfire night, mulled wine and candlelit dinners. Thankfully we have a few ideas to keep our rooms looking cosy during the darker months. It’s time to lighten up those otherwise dark little corners with our leather handled hurricane lamps. Our candle votives provide a glowing light and feature vintage style illustrations of either a fish, a stags head or an ammonite; at £7.50 each, they’d make beautiful gifts or a treat for your home. We also have more Industrial lighting in stock , click here to take a peek.
American Road Trip……
Summer is over and as the landscapes turn a beautiful Autumnal glow, we wanted to reflect on one of our summer activities this year – a trip to Colorado in the United States. With the perfect excuse of attending a family wedding, we visited The Rocky Mountains and the beautiful countryside around Denver.
Our main mission, whilst covering nearly 1000 miles across the state, was to seek beautiful vintage treasures amongst the flea markets and antiques shops. We then piled our unique finds into the back of our truck and have arranged for them to be shipped back to our very own Home Barn.
Please let us know what you think, we do enjoy finding gorgeous USA finds and can’t wait to see them go to fellow vintage lovers who also appreciate American charm.
A Very Vintage Summer Wedding…
Weddings are such beautiful occasions and it’s always a treat to be invited to one, so imagine our delight to not only be invited, but help design a very vintage wedding for our friends, Abercrombie & Fitch Director Sarah Duff and her new husband Scott. The happy couple are both incredibly creative and they wanted to create a quintessentially British feel with an American twist – this style couldn’t be more perfect for us to help with. So we set to task sourcing pieces to help prop their York Barn venue, draping muslins with wild meadow flowers, using vintage mirrors as backdrops for the eclectic mixes of glassware jars filled with their wedding flowers.
The bar decor was inspired by good old fashioned British pubs and old school gentleman’s clubs, offering guests traditional countryside charm while they sipped their Champagne and Pimms. A great little idea was the children’s area, featuring beautiful little teepees, patchwork quilts and Pendleton Navajo blankets with nostalgic toys – the little ones really enjoyed playing with something they’d never seen before.
All these little details helped make the wedding day so uniquely special and true to the couple’s personality, and of course are great little touches that will be captured on film making the wedding photographs pieces of art.
Here’s to the bride and groom…for a fantastic future together…
